Turan Horseback Archery Camp
Tien Shan Mountains — Kyrgyzstan
Experience travelling on horseback with members of the Kyrgyzstan horseback archery team, nights in a nomad yurt camp, and a morning riding out with a golden eagle hunter.
All experience levels welcome. Limited places available.

Due to a very strong interest, we are adding two new departures for 2026. As the seasons change, we ride through spectacular alpine valleys, red canyon landscapes, and remote nomadic regions.

8-Day Camp
Ride alongside Kyrgyzstan’s top horseback archers through breathtaking red canyons and mountain landscapes to arrive into an Alpine valley nomadic camp. Learn the ancient art of horseback archery from members of the national team while experiencing authentic nomadic life. Continue to Bokonbayevo to ride with a local eagle hunter and witness the centuries-old tradition of golden eagle hunting.

Multi-day horse trek
Ride over red canyons & multiple mountain passes to reach the horseback archery camp.
Natural hot springs
After days in the saddle immerse yourself into natural hot springs.

Witness age old traditions being played out across the camp.
Nomad yurt camp
Sleep in a traditional yurt camp, shared with the nomadic families.

8-day camp program.

Morning pickup from Bishkek and we drive to the shores of Issyk-Kul lake. We spend our first night in a small village with a Kyrgyz family.
Driving 5-6 hours

After breakfast we get in the saddle and start our horseback archery journey into the mountains.
4-5 hours riding. sleeping at local yurt camp

We prepare to take on our second mountain pass and arrive at base camp. We test out our bows and begin basic training

After learning the fundamentals of horseback archery on the ground. Progress into the saddle.

Progressing to shooting from a moving horse, followed by an afternoon of national games.
In the evening ride to natural hot springs.

Shooting at full gallop, capped off with a friendly horseback archery competition against the rest of the group.

Travel to meet a local hunter and his golden eagle for a traditional mounted hunt in the mountains.

A ride over a high mountain pass down to camp, settling into the nomad yurt camp that's home base for the next 4 nights.
